Ankara
Ankara, the capital of the Republic of Turkey, is the second largest city after Istanbul in terms of population and the third largest city in terms of surface area. The first name of the city, which is thought to have been founded by the Galatians in 200 BC, was ANKYPA in Greek and ANCYRA in Latin. ANKYPA means ship anchor in Greek.
The city also played very important roles in the founding stages of the Republic of Turkey and became the capital of the country with the critical task it took in the founding of the Republic of Turkey. Official buildings belonging to this period serve as important museums such as the War of Independence Museum (I. Parliament Building), the Republic Museum and the Atatürk House. Ankara, which is Atatürk’s permanent residence and hosts Anıtkabir, which is visited by millions of people every year; It is one of the important touristic cities of the country with it’s the Paliament Building (TBMM) and its official offices, 19 universities, modern structures such as Atakule and 53 world-famous museums.
